Another two weeks, another post...

I've been busy working the past couple of weeks, but I suppose that's no excuse for not posting. My fish tank is fairly algae-covered, so I think I perhaps need to go and purchase a pleco to get rid of it. I hope my betta, Dutch, doesn't freak out about him.

K's bridal shower is next week, and I'm busy getting stuff ready. I need to make a shopping list and plan what I'm going to cook when.

It's been a long few weeks. I love my family, but I feel like its way past time to be at home with my husband. I don't like being separated, and it makes it worse to know that he's struggling, too.

True Blood Season 2 starts on June 14, and I'm so excited. I really want Season 1, but I don't have it yet. I think maybe I'll ask for it for my b-day.

I've been reading this new series of books, the Pschic Eye Mysteries by Victoria Laurie. Now, I'm not claiming they're high literature or anything, but they entertain me and I'm enjoying them. Sorta like Charlaine Harris's books. She also wrote a ghost hunter series that I'm going to read as well. That's the nice thing about summer-- I can read books that don't have the word "Law" or "Legal" in them. Read More......

Post about Nothing in Particular

It's been a while since I have updated, I recognize this. I’ve been pretty busy the last few weeks…first with trying to survive finals, then with trying to get settled back in my hometown for the summer, and then with working a normal 9 (8:30)-to-5 job.

I’m working at one of the law firms in town as a summer clerk. I have a corner office (curiously enough) on the top floor of one of the towers, with a nice view of the downtown area and the area north of the city. I have plenty of work to keep me busy, and the attorneys and staff are all very nice here. Naturally, I miss hubby, and I get the distinct feeling that he misses me, although he has a couple of friends in town to entertain him and my friend is going down on Wednesday to stay overnight, so he’ll have company then as well.

I’m going back down there on Friday to spend the long memorial day weekend with him—I’m so excited, I’m counting down the days and hours, which is a little bit ridiculous, but nevertheless I am doing it.

I bought (another) fish tank this weekend—this one a smaller 5 gallon, with lots of natural plants—for a betta, some ghost shrimp, and an apple snail. Provided my betta, when I get him, doesn’t go haywire and kill everything else in the tank. I read that if you put the other critters in first your betta won’t be so territorial. If all goes well I might put him in the 10-gallon for a while and switch my fish around. I’d really like to have cichlids, but they need to be in the 10-gallon (at a minimum, I really should use a larger tank for them), and I’m not so sure how well cichlids and betta get along. Although again, I’ve read that as long as the betta don’t get territorial and the fish don’t have long, brightly colored fins, betta are actually okay with everyone but other betta.

Planning a Bridal shower for my friend K (really, I’m too lazy to think up CRAZY nicknames for all my friends here), which I’m kind of excited about. Due to time constraints I’m thinking I’ll probably order the cake from somewhere and also buy some chicken salad from a really good grocery in town (I’ve heard it’s amazing) so I don’t have to do quite so much work. My friend S (sounds a bit like Gossip Girl, doesn’t it?) is going to help out, so I won’t have to do all the cooking on my own, thank God.
I have purchased vases in a variety of shapes for flowers, and I plan to tie big green bows around them. In addition, I’m going to buy fabric to make a table runner. It will be super cute and I will have to change my name to “the Martha Stewart of Law Clerks.” Not really—she’s a little bit nutso.

I joined a gym up here in town for the time I’m going to be spending here. It was really cheap with a summer special, and has free classes (pilates, aerobics, pool), a sauna, and a hot tub. Oh joy, an actual good gym!!!

In July, Hubby and J and I are going to Lake Ouachita in Arkansas, which I anticipate being lots of fun. I want to fish, so I’m going to have to convince them that they, too, want to fish. (I’m also going to do my best to convince my husband that we need to rent a boat with an actual motor—canoes, not so good with two larger (one of us actually fat) people and one skinny person. We almost dumped ourselves in Degray last time, and I think I was smaller then.
But other than anticipated canoeing issues, I’m really looking forward to it. I love camping and swimming and all of that other tomboy-ish stuff, so it should be lots of fun.

I interviewed with a firm on Friday that I was really excited about possibly getting to work with. (Please do not try and diagram the previous sentence. I mean it.) However, they haven’t gotten back to me. I’m wondering if this is “we’re really busy and know you won’t start working for us until almost July”, or if this is “we don’t want you, you’re too stupid.” I’m hoping it’s the first for financial reasons, but to be honest, I think I would survive if I didn’t have a job for part of the summer. I would get to go home for a week or so, and then come back up to Shreveport to watch my dad’s house.

But, the downside is we wouldn’t have the whole lot of money that I wanted us to have. AND it means probably having to get a bigger Bar Study Loan in the spring. AND it means less of a chance of getting a job offer in the fall. So… kind of torn. One last break would be SO nice, though….

As per request!

Photos of the actual tank...

Actually, I was going to post them last night, but just forgot. I've added more decorations since then, but I haven't taken pictures of them yet. Here is the tank with the (now dead) Moneywort in the background, the aphrodite statue, and the sword plant far left (you can see the corner of a tipped-over column on the side-- it was intentional, I meant it to look like a kind of ruined Atlantis. Or something. I really don't know. You can see a tetra down there by the base of the moneywort, but I don't think there are any other fish. unless there are. This picture's not a blurry head and tail light tetra swimming away from the camera, and a slightly less blurry black neon tetra foreground. I can't tell if this is the poor guy that died or not. Three fish clearly visible in this picture. The big black neon is the one that died. So the poor little guy is the one that's left. In this final picture you can see the neons and a close-up of the aphrotite (And random other baby person?) statue. Also in foreground is the Java fern. I...really don't know what else to say about it. :) I am so proud of my aquarium and my pretty pretty fish. It gives me something to do (instead of studying. haha.)

April and May are the Cruellest Months

I know, I know, it's been a while. But I've been busy taking care of my new babies. Before I show you them, though, I'd like you to take a look of this picture of what our city looked like this afternoon just before we were nailed with hurricane-like rainfall. It was bad. We were driving extremely slowly and I had to move into the left lane out of the irrational fear that my poor little car wouldn't be able to handle the flooding on the right side of the road.

Anyway, for anyone who hasn't already heard, I convinced my poor hubby to get me a 10-gallon aquarium last week. I think I would have managed to convince him to get a 20-gallon long, but we couldn't find a matching hood for it.

We stocked it first with three of these: Head and Tail Light Tetras. One of them died a day later in a freak filter accident (which I originally blamed on Hubby, but as it happened again a couple of days later after I fixed what I thought to be the problem, I can no longer use him as the scapegoat for the death of one of my fish
Since I didn't like just having two fish in my aquarium, I bought a pair of these, Black neon Tetras. I originally wanted to get another head and tail light tetra, but the pet store I went to was different from the one where I got the first fish, and they didn't have them. So, I got two more so as to not freak them out. Ironically, the fish I got were almost exactly like the ones you see in the picture: A lil' one and a big one. Then, again, there was yet another freak filter accident and the big one died. I still haven't figured out what's going on, since they both seemed healthy the day before they died, but everything I can find out online tells me that if the fish gets stuck on or in the filter, it was probably sick to begin with. So... I don't know what's going on. But I have three fish left. And one of these: he's a blue mystery snail. He likes to eat algae, leftover fish food, and apparently plants, although he hasn't bothered mine yet. As for plants, I decided to go with live ones, and have an amazon sword plant (I plan to get more tomorrow as tetras like a densely planted tank) and three java ferns. My moneywort died, which is probably a good thing since it doesn't really go with the amazon blackwater river thing I'm going for.
In four days when I move back up to the North part of the state, I'm thinking about getting a betta tank, because I'm going to miss my fishies a lot a lot.
Oh. Also it's finals time. I don't have much else to say about that. It makes me sad and itchy to think about it. Buhhhh. Friday I have a dentist appointment as well as an interview with a firm in my hometown-- a chance at a second summer job!!!
